Introduction

This website is for cancer patients, their families, friends and carers.

In it, you can…

  • find out about cancers, tests and treatments, side effects and many other subjects

  • get suggests on living and coping with cancer

  • find out about cancer services for people on the Isle of Man

  • look for sources of information, advice and support.

Information in this site is tailored to patients who live on the Isle of Man. If you live outside the area, you may still find this site to be a useful source of information. Please remember, though, that clinical practice may be different in your area. Please speak with your own health care team if you have a query about this.

Who is involved

This cancer information website for the Isle of Man, has been set up by the Isle of Man Macmillan Cancer Information Centre and the Council of Cancer Charities, with funding from Macmillan Cancer Support.

The aim of this site - and its limitations

We aim to provide basic and easy to understand information on subjects of interest to cancer patients, their families, friends and carers.

The information is general in nature. We do not try to cover every subject in full detail. Instead, we give you a basic, reliable introduction to each subject. You may then wish to look for more in-depth information elsewhere. We hope our site will help you to go back to your health care team better able to ask questions and to participate in your treatment and recovery.

Remember that every cancer patient is different, and we cannot give you advice about your particular condition or circumstances.

Our website is not a substitute for the professional medical advice and care you can expect from your doctors, nurses and others in your health care team.

Decisions about your care should be made only in consultation with your health care team.

If you are a diagnosed cancer patient, please consult your team in all matters relating to your diagnosis, treatment and care. Please don't be afraid to ask questions if there is anything you are concerned about, or don't understand.

If you have not been diagnosed with cancer but are worried about the symptoms you are having, please consult your GP as quickly as you can, so that s/he can arrange any tests that you may need.

Website

This website has been adapted from the Northern Cancer Network.

Our aim is to provide patients, their families, friends and carers with information that is as easy to understand as we can make it.
