There's no reason why you can't enjoy a normal sex life during your treatment, if you feel like it.

Both men and women should be aware that toxic chemotherapy drugs can be transmitted through bodily fluids during sex. While you are having chemotherapy, and for a while afterwards, you must use condoms to protect your partner from contact with the drugs you are receiving. Condoms are available free from family planning clinics.

The nurses on the Oncology Suite will be able to give you advice about the drugs you are having and how long they are likely to stay in your system.

If there are times when you feel too tired or unwell or preoccupied, don't feel guilty. Remember that these feelings will pass and, once they do, you can start to enjoy sex again.
