You can help yourself during treatment by doing these things…
- drink lots of fluids
Keeping your body well hydrated with lots of drinks, especially water will help flush the drugs through your system and is one of the best ways to help your body cope with the treatment you are having.
- try to eat well
Eat as healthily as you can, and try to get enough food, even if you don't feel very hungry.
Our section on mouth and eating problems has more advice on this.
- take care of your mouth
Chemotherapy can make your mouth and gums sore. You also need to take care of your mouth to avoid dental problems later on.

- make time for yourself, and get enough rest
- tell your doctor and nurse how you are feeling
