A whole team of people will care for you. They include...
Your clinical oncologist
You will be looked after by an oncologist (a cancer doctor). A clinical oncologist specialises in both chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Your oncologist will plan your treatment and keep a careful check on you as it progresses. S/he will work with others in your health care team to make sure you get the best possible care.
Your chemotherapy nurse
A specially trained chemotherapy nurse will give you your treatment. S/he will also carry out tests (such as blood tests) and give you information, advice and support, so don't be afraid to ask questions.
The pharmacy team
Each time you come for treatment, your chemotherapy drugs will be prepared especially for you in the hospital pharmacy. You may meet your pharmacist whilst visiting the Oncology Suite or Oncology Clinic.
Others in your health care team
There are many other people who can help you. For example, a dietician can give you advice if you have eating problems because of your illness or treatment. A social worker can help with practical matters such as the financial benefits you might be able to claim. You may already have a clinical nurse specialist who is an expert in helping patients with your type of cancer, and who will be a constant source of support.
If you have any questions about your treatment, you can ask any member of the team for help.
