Your GP, hospital doctors and other health professionals are there to support you, and to give you information. They are the only people who can tell you more about your particular cancer and its treatment. It is part of their job to talk to you, so feel free to ask them questions.

Beating Bowel Cancer
This is a UK charity which works to raise awareness of symptoms, promote early diagnosis and support treatment choices for those affected by bowel cancer. They have a range of information booklets about the bowel and bowel cancer, and a telephone advisory service where you can speak to a specialist nurse. Telephone: 0208 892 5256.

This is a UK charity dedicated to raising awareness of bowel cancer, improving the quality of life of those affected by the disease. Cancer Backup - Bowel cancer
The Cancerbackup website covers general information on bowel cancer, causes and diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials, resources and support. This information is also available in a booklet (free to patients) direct from Cancerbackup or from the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre.
CancerHelp - Bowel Cancer (Colorectal Cancer)
Cancer Research UK has a patient information website called CancerHelp, which has information on a wide number of topics associated with bowel cancer.
Lynn's Bowel Cancer Campaign
This is a UK charity who aim to raise awareness of bowel cancer and improve services for people affected by bowel cancer. They have produced a video 'having a colonoscopy' for patients. Telephone helpline: 0870 24 24 870.
The Ileostomy & Internal Pouch Support Group
This is a UK charity whose aim is to help people who have surgery which involves the removal of their colon (known as a colectomy) and the creation of either an ileostomy or an ileo-anal pouch.
Palliative care
This website has a section with more information about palliative care, and what happens when cancer cannot be treated, and details of organisations that can be of support.
