You can cut your risk of this and many other cancers by not smoking. For advice on reducing you risk of cancer, and support to stop smoking, click here.


You should also have regular cervical screening tests so that any pre-cancerous changes can be identified and treated early.

All women in the Isle of Man aged 25 - 64 can have a free cervical screening test every 3-5 years. You will automatically get an invitation letter. (Please make sure that your GP has your correct, current address.) Any women aged 20 - 24 can talk to their GP about having an earlier smear test, should they wish.

Since the UK cervical screening programme was introduced in 1988, invasive cervical cancer has become a much rarer disease in the UK.

The cervical screening test will not, however, identify all instances of CIN - nor can it always stop the development of invasive cancer.
