Cancer in children and young people is rare.

These cancers are quite different from cancers affecting adults. They tend to occur in different parts of the body and respond differently to treatment.

Children from the Isle of Man are usually treated in a 'shared care' arrangement between the Noble's Hospital Paediatric Team and Alder Hey Children's Hospital Oncology Unit in Liverpool. (Noble's Hospital Paediatric Team has identified lead paediatric doctors, as well as ward and community based children’s nurses)

A Children's Community Nurse is available through Noble's Hospital as a source of information and support to the child and their family. The Community Nurse can be contacted on 01624 650317.

Rebecca House provides Hospice facilities for children with cancer. For more information on Rebecca House, please click here.

Your child's own doctors, nurses and others in your health care team are the only people who can tell you about your child's particular cancer and its treatment. However, if you would like to read some more general information now, you may find these suggestions helpful...
