The most usual symptoms are...

  • a new cough or a change in a cough (for example, you cough up more phlegm than usual)

  • coughing up blood

  • chest pain

  • a hoarse voice

  • a high-pitched sound (called stridor) when you breathe in.

Patients may also have more general symptoms, for example...

  • unexplained weight loss

  • fever

  • loss of appetite

  • tiredness
  • persistent chest and/or shoulder pain
