It is quite a rare cancer, but it is the most common cancer in men aged 15-40.
In most cases, we don’t know what causes it, but you are more at risk if you have had an undescended testicle.
In the unborn baby the testicles grow in the abdomen and then move down into the scrotum at birth or in the first few months of life. In some boys this doesn’t happen until later – or they need surgery to bring the testicles down. These boys have an increased risk of getting testicular cancer later in life.
If you have already had cancer in one testicle, there is a risk that you will get it in the other testicle too.
