Here are some ideas about where you can go for expert help and information about benefits…
- Macmillan Cancer Relief can send you a free benefits guide and information about where to go for financial advice. Please call freephone 0800 500 8000 or visit this section of the Macmillan website. You will find sections with advice about how to get the most from your meeting with a benefits adviser, and the benefits available.
- your local Citizens Advice Bureau
- the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) - contact your local Social Security office, or the Department's website or telephone helplines
- the Benefit Enquiry Line (0800 882200) are able to provide advice on benefits and hospital travel costs
- many charities - including Age Concern and Help the Aged - offer telephone advice and factsheets on benefits and other money matters
- there are several charities that can advise on benefits and finance for disabled people. Disability Alliance runs a telephone helpline, for instance
- a local carers' group may well be able to help you - or contact the Carers UK telephone helpline
- your hospital social worker may be able to give you advice - ask a member of your health care team if they can arrange an appointment
- our Cancer Information Centres stock copies of many Benefits Agency leaflets, as well as other sources of information and advice. They may be able to arrange an appointment for you with a benefits adviser or social worker… or they will put you in touch with someone else who can help you
- this website includes a database of national and local organisations and self-help groups. You could use it to find organisations that may be able to help you.
