What is the Isle of Man Cancer Services User Forum?

The Isle of Man Cancer Services User Forum is made up of people who have or have had cancer, and carers of people with cancer. It also has health professionals who attend the regular meetings.

The Forum links in with support groups on the Island and user groups in the Merseyside & Cheshire Cancer Network.

What does the Isle of Man Cancer Services User Forum do?

The Isle of Man Cancer Services User Forum:-

  • is an independent group.
  • aims to represent the voice of people affected by cancer on the Isle of Man.
  • works with health professionals to improve services for people affected by cancer.

The Forum is a place where patients, carers and health professionals can meet to discuss patient issues in local cancer services.  We are currently working to improve:

  • Standards of treatment and care
  • Information
  • Communication
  • Support for patients who need to travel off Island for treatment

Representatives of the Forum attend strategic meetings within Isle of Man Cancer Services to ensure that patient and carer issues are heard and that services are developed in line with their needs.

What we do not do:

  • We are not a support group, although members of some support groups are members of the forum, and are supportive of our members
  • We are not a complaints department

What has the Isle of Man Cancer Services User Forum done?

We have produced a freely available information booklet about cancer services for patients and carers in the Isle of Man. To view the booklet, click on the link below:

We have raised issues from patients and carers with relevant members of the government and health service in order to improve cancer services.

We have taken part in 'Cancer Voices' training provided by Macmillan Cancer Support, to help us improve our communication and influencing skills.

What do we offer?

  • An opportunity to help improve local cancer services
  • Appropriate training in communication and influencing skills

When does the Isle of Man Cancer Services User Forum meet?

We meet every 2 months.

Some meetings are ‘drop-in’ sessions open to the public, while others are formal meetings at which members discuss set agenda items.
