Some medical treatments may help. For example, your doctor may be able to prescribe oxygen, but it doesn’t work for every patient.

If you have fluid on the lung, doctors may be able to drain it off. If you are in pain, painkillers may relieve it.

Your doctor will first need to find out why you are breathless, so that s/he can decide how best to help you.

But medical treatment isn’t always needed. There are also quite a few things you can do for yourself. For example you can learn how to manage your everyday activities, so that you get less breathless. A good diet and gentle exercise will also help.
