You may feel breathless because...

  • you have anaemia (too few red blood cells)

  • you have had part of your lung removed in an operation

  • radiotherapy has scarred some of your lung tissue

  • you have a chest infection

  • you have fluid on the lung

  • pain is making breathing difficult or uncomfortable
